School’s back from summer! As students head back into the classrooms, educators are busy making lesson plans and mapping out educational activities for their new flock of learners. Along with the new curriculum in place, field trips are probably on the top of the mind for teachers of elementary through high school students. Las Vegas is abundant with field trip activities that are available any season. From zoos and aquariums to museums, nature centers, and historic sites, this quick list of field trip ideas in the Las Vegas area should be a helpful resource for teachers and school administrators!

Outdoor Field Trip Ideas

Rock On: Red Rock Canyon Las Vegas

Take a walk on the rock side – a field trip to Red Rock Canyon is a great way to get students out of the classroom and into the fresh air for some fun learning! Students of any age can participate in some fun outdoor learning activities from a nature hike to a scenic drive, or a photography excursion. There are options for guided tours or self-guided trip events that allow educators to design their own field trip itinerary. Water Works: Hoover Dam and Power Plant

It’s the second largest dam in the US and has a rich and amazing history. The Hoover Dam is a fantastic field trip option to stimulate kids’ attention to the beauty of science and nature and how they work together to create electric power and freshwater resources for large populations of people. Guided field trip tours include a walkthrough of the original construction tunnels, a look over the viewing platform, insight into the 8 power generators on-site, and access to the visitor/tour center. For any student in the state of Nevada, a trip to the Hoover Dam is a staple in educational experiences that can that creates a lasting memory of your early years of school.

Yee Haw! Bonnie Springs Ranch 

Located about 15 miles outside Las Vegas, Bonnie Springs Ranch is located on 115 acres and offers a shooting gallery, museum, petting zoo, and horseback and stagecoach rides. School field trips are usually a day filled with a Western flare. Students will get a taste of the Old West complete with cowboys, a gunfight & hanging reenactments, and learn about the fascinating Nevada history, including an insight into the old mining industry. They’ll also get to catch a melodrama play, complete with comedic bits and interactive fun with the actors on stage.
